Picture book author Tim Hoppey will read his book, The Good Fire Helmet, on Thursday, October 25, 2018, at Anna S. Kuhl Elementary School in Port Jervis, New York. Hoppey's presentation to third graders at the school will also include a talk about writing techniques. The students have been working with the Teachers College Writing Program, and the event with Hoppey celebrates their first publications.

Amanda Trimillos, EdD, and Stacy Allsbrook-Huisman, coauthors of Seasons of My Military Student: Practical Ideas for Parents and Teachers, will present at the Military Interstate Children's Compact Commission (MIC3)'s annual business meeting October 17 and 18, 2018, in Cleveland, Ohio. At the event, Amanda and Stacy will talk about the Seasons of TransitionTM, the cycle of transitions a military-connected student experiences when frequently changing schools due to a parent’s military service. They will also offer tips for education leaders to help parents and teachers understand and implement the provisions of the Interstate Compact.

Vet Arts: Writing and Movement Workshop Series Aug 27-Oct 1, 2018 in Raleigh, NC
United Arts Council of Raleigh & Wake County 410 Glenwood Avenue, Suite 170, Raleigh, NC, United StatesUnited Arts Council of Raleigh & Wake County will host a workshop series to provide veterans an opportunity to explore writing and movement in a fun artistic creation process with writer Mimi Herman, dancer Michelle Pearson, and dancer/veteran Alfredo Hurtado. Veterans and military spouses from all military branches are welcome. The workshop will take place on Mondays, noon-2 PM, August 27–October 1, 2018. There will be no class on Labor Day, September 3. The concluding session on Oct 1 will take place at 5:30 PM. All sessions will take place at the United Arts Council on Glenwood Ave in Raleigh, North Carolina. Cost is $25.

Deborah Tainsh, Gold Star wife and mother and author of Heart of a Hawk and Surviving the Folded Flag will sign copies of her books in the lobby of the National Infantry Museum & Soldier Center on Sat., Sept. 8, 2018, beginning at noon Eastern. The booksigning and other events will follow the 11 AM rededication ceremony for the Global War on Terrorism Memorial at the museum in Columbus, Georgia, near Fort Benning. Gold Star family members will be honored guests at the ceremony.
