Semper Parents: Supporting Your Marine and Sharing the Journey Releases July 12, 2022

NEW BOOK RELEASE
Friendly guide helps parents of US Marines understand military life, celebrate USMC traditions, nurture changing relationships, and more

(St. Paul, MN, July 2022)—Many parents have mixed feelings when their young adult child decides to become a United States Marine. Some families share a long history of military service. For others, the military lifestyle is a new experience. Each answer may lead to more questions, and parents can feel unsure of their role as their new Marine serves far away from home.

Semper Parents: Supporting Your Marine and Sharing the Journey by Mary Regner, releasing in paperback and ebook July 12, 2022, from Elva Resa Publishing, welcomes parents to the Marine Corps extended family, offering a ready resource for navigating the uncertainties and supporting their Marine.

Author Mary Regner, a Marine mom and spouse, shares practical tips and perspective from Marines, spouses, and parents with a variety of USMC experiences to help new Marine parents understand more about military life and nurture changing relationships.

“As a Marine spouse, I had nearby resources to support me regarding day-to-day activities,” says Mary. “But as a mom, communication was more challenging and information not as available or complete. I wrote Semper Parents to reassure parents that they play an important role in supporting their Marine throughout their time in service, from basic training through retirement. In addition to information about Marine Corps life, I wanted to share experiences and stories from other Marine families to serve as inspiration and encouragement.”

Comprehensive and comforting, the friendly guide informs and reassures parents, covering many aspects of a Marine family’s journey, including:

  • an overview of the Marine Corps structure and common terms
  • basic training, duty station assignments, and deployment
  • long-distance relationships
  • parenting and grandparenting as Marines grow their family
  • coping with concern and worry
  • getting involved in the military community
  • celebrating USMC customs and traditions
  • leaving the Corps
