Award-winning book and author recognized for impact on military community
(St Paul, MN, September 2025)—Elva Resa Publishing, a leading independent publisher of military family life resources, releases the paperback edition of Military Culture Shift: The Impact of War, Money, and Generational Perspective on Morale, Retention, and Leadership by Corie Weathers on September 9, 2025.
Released in hardcover and ebook in November 2023 and audiobook in October 2024, Military Culture Shift has been adopted as a key resource in classes at US Army War College (USAWC) and Air Command and Staff College (ACSC) for future commanders as they prepare to take on leadership roles. It was added to the Defense Acquisition Professional Reading List in 2025.
Military Culture Shift presents the story of US military service members, their families, and the institution itself, through the lens of multiple generations and key contributing factors. The narrative history, insights, and perspectives shared include:
- Generational viewpoints, from World War I veterans to today’s recruits
- Short- and long-term impact of Department of Defense budget decisions
- Emerging social trends within the military community, especially post-9/11
- Cumulative effect of two decades of war on military family wellness
“My original intention in writing Military Culture Shift was to inspire new conversations around taking care of GWOT warfighters and their families, while simultaneously recruiting the next generation,” says author Corie Weathers. “I am encouraged that those conversations are happening, but even more so that we are expanding beyond retention and recruitment, and really focusing on understanding the next generation, boosting morale, and valuing family quality of life. Today’s leaders, across the force, are now asking, ‘How do we continue the mission of national security and deterrence, while also reconstituting the spirit and will to fight within the culture?’”
A clinical consultant and expert on military culture, Weathers trains and consults with military and policy leaders from a variety of institutions and organizations, including all US military service branches and the US Department of Defense. This year she briefed the US Government Accountability Office (analysts that provide research and information to Congress) as well as active duty, reserve, and National Guard command teams in the Air Force, Navy, Army, and Marine Corps.
Among her upcoming events, Weathers will speak at the Military Influencer Conference in Atlanta in September and keynote AUSA’s Generation Next Forum in October. A former Military Spouse of the Year, she was named a MIGHTY 25 changemaker in 2024 for her work’s “extraordinary impact for the military community.”
Military Culture Shift has been recognized with multiple book awards, including: 2023 Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Award Finalist, 2024 Senators Bob and Elizabeth Dole Biennial Award for Distinguished Book in Veterans Studies Honorable Mention, and 2025 International Book Awards Gold Winner for Best History–Military Book.
