(St Paul, MN, February 14, 2022) — Elva Resa Publishing, an award-winning independent publisher specializing in books for and about military families, is pleased to introduce veteran and military spouse author Amanda Huffman. Amanda’s book A Girl’s Guide to Military Service: Selecting Your Specialty, Preparing for Success, Thriving in Military Life has been slated for release September 13, 2022.
“Amanda is known for creating a supportive community for servicewomen,” says Elva Resa’s publisher Karen Pavlicin. “We’re excited to add her positive energy and expertise to our roster of exceptional authors and advocates.”
Among her accolades, Amanda was honored as a HillVets 100 in 2019 for her accomplishments as one of the most influential and impactful veterans of the year. She was named one of the 2021 Women Veteran Trailblazers by the US Department of Veterans Affairs Center for Women Veterans.
Amanda wrote A Girl’s Guide to Military Service especially for high school and college-age young women who are considering a job or career in the military.
“I want to help women as they join the military,” says Amanda. “So much of my career happened by luck and the right person pushing me into the next opportunity. I often think what would have happened had those people not been there. I want to be there for the next person.”
In addition to Amanda’s experience, her guide includes tips and stories from other servicewomen. Topics include:
- Discerning if military service is the right choice
- Selecting a service branch and career field
- Preparing for training, mentally and physically
- Blending personal life, relationships, and motherhood
- Managing stress and mental toughness
- Navigating unique challenges as a woman in the military
“I wanted to provide more resources and dive deeper into answering the questions I had before I started my journey to the military,” says Amanda. “I hope this book will inspire and encourage women to join the military. I hope it’s a resource they use to not only help them pick the right branch and career but set them up for a successful military career, whether that’s for four years or twenty.”
Amanda Huffman is a professional writer, podcaster, Air Force veteran, Space Force wife, and mom of two boys. She spent her childhood growing up in central California until deciding to join the military while attending college. She discovered the Reserve Officer Training Corps program and was able to earn her commission into the Air Force when she graduated. Amanda served in the Air Force for six years, including a deployment to Afghanistan. She left the military when her first son was born. She stayed connected to fellow servicewomen through her encouraging Women of the Military podcast and her Airman to Mom blog. She lives with her husband, Michael, and their two boys wherever the military sends them.
