(St. Paul, MN, May 2022)—Award-winning independent publisher Elva Resa Publishing continues to be recognized for excellence in publishing, with two of its 2021 releases being honored in distinguished publishing awards:
- ¡Atrapa la estrella! by Brenda Ehrmantraut, translated by Ana Stevenson, illustrated by Vicki Wehrman, and edited by Gabriella Aldeman, has been named a Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Award Finalist in the category of Picture Books, Early Reader.
- Open When: Letters of Encouragement for Military Spouses by Lizann Lightfoot has been named a Midwest Book Award Finalist in the category of Nonfiction, Family/Parenting.
Award celebrations will take place in June.
Each year, the Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Awards highlight outstanding books from independent publishers and university presses. A panel of more than one hundred librarians and booksellers determine the winners based on their experience with readers and patrons. Foreword Reviews will celebrate the winners online via its website and social media on Thursday, June 16, 2022, at 11 AM CST.
The Midwest Book Awards celebrate independent publishers based in the Midwest for excellence in publishing. The awards recognize creativity in content and execution, overall book quality, and the book’s unique contribution to its subject area. Awards will be announced at a VIP Reception & Watch Party in Minneapolis on June 25, 2022, 6–8:30 PM CST. The celebration will also be premiered via the Midwest Independent Publishers Association YouTube channel on June 25, 2022, at 7 PM CST.
¡Atrapa la estrella! is the Spanish edition of Night Catch, a story about a soldier and his son who play a game of catch with the North Star to stay connected during the dad’s deployment.
Open When: Letters of Encouragement for Military Spouses is a collection of letters for military spouses that offers encouraging words and practical advice throughout the military life journey.
“Both of these books honor the importance of connection and support in the military family community,” says Elva Resa publisher Karen Pavlicin. “I’m so grateful to our authors and team members involved in creating these important resources.”
