IBPA Names Elva Resa’s Publisher, Karen Pavlicin-Fragnito, a Board of Directors Candidate

FEBRUARY 2018

(St. Paul, MN)—The team at Elva Resa Publishing is honored to share the Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA)’s announcement that our publisher, Karen Pavlicin-Fragnito, has been named a candidate to serve on IBPA’s national board of directors for fiscal years 2019 and 2020.

With more than 3,000 members, IBPA is the largest independent publishing association in the United States, leading and serving the independent publishing community through advocacy, education, and tools for success.

Pavlicin-Fragnito was selected from a list of twenty new applicants and two incumbents for one of six open seats on the national board. Board positions will be confirmed at the April 2018 annual membership meeting. Each candidate is slated to serve a two-year term starting July 1, 2018.

IBPA Chief Executive Officer Angela Bole said the selected candidates “share IBPA’s vision of a world where every independent publisher has the tools and knowledge needed to professionally engage in all aspects of the publishing industry.”

Pavlicin-Fragnito has been a member of IBPA (formerly Publishers Marketing Association) since founding Minnesota-based Elva Resa Publishing in 1997. Over the past two decades, she’s grown Elva Resa into the leading US publisher of books for and about military families. She credits a large portion of her success to her team of authors and illustrators, and the spirit of open mentoring she’s found in IBPA and its Minnesota affiliates, Midwest Independent Publishing Association (MIPA) and Minnesota Book Publishers’ Roundtable (MBPR).

“The Twin Cities has a passionate publishing community built on supportive relationships,” says Pavlicin-Fragnito. “I’ve been blessed with wonderful mentors over the years, and I enjoy mentoring other authors and publishers as well. Serving on the national board is an exciting opportunity to extend that reach and serve my larger publishing community. I look forward to collaborating with the other directors and members to support indie publishers across the country.”

A well-respected business leader and award-winning author, Pavlicin-Fragnito brings to the national board more than three decades of experience in the book and magazine publishing industry. Her executive-level business leadership crosses corporate and entrepreneurial ventures, with special expertise in startups, niche go-to-market strategies, virtual teams, and nontraditional programs.

Directing extensions of the Elva Resa business portfolio, Pavlicin-Fragnito is also publisher of Books Make A Difference, an online magazine that celebrates books, their creators and fans, and the positive difference they make in people’s lives; and publisher of Military Family Life, an online resource offering information and encouragement to military families. Elva Resa’s online store, MilitaryFamilyBooks.com, is both a consumer retailer and wholesale distributor of bulk government sales, representing titles from other indie and large trade publishers who want to reach the military market.

As an author, Pavlicin-Fragnito is best known for her multiple award-winning children’s novel Summer of Courage (Perch, Mrs. Sackets, and Crow’s Nest) and her popular guides for military families: Surviving Deployment and Life After Deployment.

She is a sought-after international speaker on the topics of writing, publishing, leadership, relationships, faith, grief, and military life. She consults with national nonprofits, television and movie producers, health care organizations, spiritual enrichment programs, public policy influencers, and military family support organizations. A mom, songwriter, photographer, community advocate, and avid traveler, she strives to use her passions and talents to make a difference in people’s lives.

Elva Resa’s family of 70+ authors, illustrators, and team members extends a warm congratulations to our fearless leader and looks forward to more closely supporting IBPA’s initiatives.
