Guided journal celebrates 20 years
Helps military kids express thoughts and feelings during loved one’s deployment
(St. Paul, MN) — Award-winning independent publisher Elva Resa Publishing is pleased to announce the July 1, 2025, release of the third edition of Deployment Journal for Kids by Rachel Robertson. Created especially for military kids, this popular journal offers encouragement for difficult days, ideas for healthy activities, and plenty of journaling pages to express feelings and record experiences while a parent or other loved one is deployed.
The updated and expanded third edition features a colorful new design throughout, enhanced writing prompts, pages to help kids better understand their feelings, ideas for keeping in touch, goal-setting pages, and interesting military facts.
“I am very excited about the updates we made in this edition,” says author Rachel Robertson. “I hope kids continue to find comfort and connection throughout these pages, while having a little fun and learning along the way.”
Rachel wrote the original edition after seeing the benefits of journaling firsthand. “My daughter Hanna was comforted by journaling during her dad’s deployments,” says Rachel. “As a child development professional, I knew this would help her build healthy coping strategies and her resilience. Military children need a way to process their unique feelings and experiences. I wrote this journal to respond to the specific needs of military children facing a deployment.”
First published 20 years ago, the first edition sold more than 50,000 copies. “I am honored that an idea borne from a blend of my personal experience and professional expertise resulted in something that has been helpful to so many children and families,” says Rachel.
Deployment Journal for Kids (3rd edition) comes in a convenient size that’s easy to hold and carry in a backpack, with lay flat binding to make writing easier. Special sections guide kids through the deployment journey, from getting ready to saying goodbye, during deployment through reunion. Especially helpful for kids ages 7-12 and appropriate for any service branch.
