Weathers Leads Series of Virtual Deployment Workshops for USO
December 8, 2020 - December 11, 2020
Corie Weathers, author of Sacred Spaces: My Journey to the Heart of Military Marriage, and her military husband, Matt Weathers, are the hosts for a series of free virtual deployment workshops for the USO called “You’re Leaving … Again?”
The theme for the December session, offered on both Dec. 8 and 11, 2020, is “Holiday Edition: Being Apart Was Not What I Was Expecting.” The topic is applicable for Matt and Corie, because they are leading the series remotely while Matt is deployed. The series of monthly workshops, beginning in October, covers issues military families face during deployment, temporary duty, and other times spent apart.
After more than two decades of marriage, Corie and Matt are veterans of multiple deployments. Matt is an army chaplain, and Corie is a mental health clinician. Corie says they plan to use their own experiences and expertise to help other military couples as the series progresses through the coming months.
“We make ourselves vulnerable by sharing how we aim to keep connected as a family while apart,” she says. “We will share our struggles and victories, marriage tips, parenting, and even take questions.”
Registration is required. Attendees may choose one of these dates and times: Dec. 8 from 8 to 10 PM Eastern (U.S. Edition) or Dec. 11 from 1 to 3 PM Eastern (European/Middle East edition). The USO has more information here including access to recorded versions of the October session and November sessions and accompanying worksheets.
